Chianti

(kee-an-tee)
DEFINITION

Chianti

Chianti is a dry red wine produced from Sangiovese grapes in the Chianti region of central Tuscany, Italy. It has high acidity, medium body and flavors of cherry, plum, earth and dried herb, excellent when paired with tomato based pasta sauces, grilled meats or dishes with olive oil. Chianti Classico is a distinct, higher quality subzone within the region, which is identifiable by a black rooster seal.

Did you know? The name of the major grape used to make Chianti wines is Sangiovese, which means "blood of Jupiter".
