Wine Glass

(wyn glaas)
DEFINITION

Wine Glass

A wine glass is a specialized vessel designed to enhance the wine drinking experience by managing aroma, temperature and aeration. Most glasses are “stemware” with three parts: a bowl for holding wine, the stem which prevents hand warming of the wine, and the base, for providing stability. Red wine glasses have wider bowls and larger openings to increase aeration and develop complex notes, while white wine glasses are smaller to concentrate delicate aromas and keep the wine cool. As for sparkling wine, flutes or tulip shaped glasses are used to preserve carbonation.

Did you know? Crystal is much stronger than regular glass, which is why it can be made into durable, thin, elegant glasses.
