Cru
“Cru” means “growth” from French and refers to a superior, officially recognized growing site, vineyard, or village, noted for its exceptional quality and unique terroir. It denotes the best and most sought after wines from a legally defined area within regions like Burgundy, Champagne and Bordeaux. Deeply tied to the French concept of terroir, crus are typically labeled as “Grand Cru” (great growth) or “Premier Cru” (first growth).
