DEFINITION

Montepulciano

Montepulciano refers to an Italian red wine grape variety, primarily cultivated in the Abruzzo region. Its produces a dry and full bodied red wine called Montepulciano d’Abruzzo, which is popular for its moderate tannins, vibrant acidity and dark fruit and spice notes. The Montepulciano grape can also be produced as a rosé, known as Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo. Due to its bold fruit forward profile, Montepulciano wines pair well with hearty tomato based dishes and mature cheeses.

Did you know? The name "Montepulciano" refers to two completely different, high quality Italian wines: Montepulciano d'Abruzzo and Vino Nobile di Montepulciano from Tuscany.
