Pinot Noir

(pee-now nuh-waa)
DEFINITION

Pinot Noir

Pinot Noir refers to both the wine and its grape variety, which is one of the oldest in the world with over 1,000 mutations. A light to medium bodied, cool climate red wine that originated in Burgundy, France, it has high acidity and low tannins. Pinot Noir is also a primary grape for Champagne production, known for its flavors of red berries alongside savory notes like mushroom, tobacco and truffle. It pairs well with earthy ingredients, poultry and lighter red meat dishes.

Did you know? Pinot Noir was nicknamed the "heartbreak grape" because it is notoriously difficult to grow and it is highly susceptible to rot and disease.
