Syrah

(sai-ruh)
DEFINITION

Syrah

Syrah, also known as Shiraz, is a dark skinned grape variety that produces full bodied and bold high alcohol red wines with moderate tannins. Its wines display intense dark fruit flavors, violet, spice and savory notes, with exceptional aging potential. Originally from France’s Rhône Valley where it is more elegant and earthy, it is also widely grown in Australia, where it is crafted into fruit forward and riper expressions.

Did you know? DNA profiling confirmed that Syrah is a natural cross between two rare French grapes: the dark skinned Dureza and the white skinned Mondeuse Blanche.
