Barbera is a popular red wine grape from Piedmont, Italy, known for producing medium bodied, deeply colored and fruity wines with high acidity and low tannins. It displays common tasting notes of tart cherry, blackberry, plum, licorice, as well as hints of vanilla and nutmeg when aged in oak. Beyond Italy, Barbera is widely grown in the Sierra Foothills of California, as well as in Australia.
